Join the Gilmer County Genealogy Society as we welcome Ken Ross, Curator for the Ducktown Basin Museum. In the mid-1800s the Copper Basin, located within modern-day McCaysville and Ducktown, became the Southeast’s largest metal mining operation and would become the largest man-made biological desert in the nation to date. Join us as we relive the economic fervor, the disasters, and the optimistic clean-ups. Refreshments are provided at 1:30 PM.
