We are looking for a team player who loves the library and believes in great customer service!

This position is central to customer service, providing timely assistance to the public and responding to a variety of requests. This frontline position anticipates and meets the needs of users in the most visible way. This position also aids in maintaining the materials collection. Fully supported by all of the other sectors and departments, they work to provide quality customer service to the library community. This position reports to the branch manager.

Location:                               Multiple positions are available in various branch locations in Cherokee County

Salary & Benefits:               $8.49 per hour

Schedule:                              Part-Time, 17 hours per week. Work schedule will vary and flexibility is required.

                                                   Schedule can include a combination of day, evening and weekend hours.


  • Deliver quality customer service, greeting the public in a welcoming, professional manner.
  •  Assist at the service desk and provide staff support as needed.
  •  Use of library automation system and implementing circulation procedures.
  •  Understand and perform circulation operations for all library materials.
  •  Understand and perform procedures for shelving, shifting and shelf reading.
  •  Assist the public in locating, selecting, and using resources.
  •  Proactively interact with the public to ascertain what they need and ensure they find it.
  •  Ensure proper order of books, and neat orderly appearance of public areas.
  •  Enter data in library automation system or other software, maintaining confidential records and circulation databases. 
  •  Handle financial transactions, count money and make change accurately.                           



Requires High School Diploma or equivalent.

Skills & Abilities:                 

  • Basic computer skills including the ability to type, operate a computer and navigate the internet.
  • Ability to perform basic math; understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work with others in a variety of circumstances; to deal tactfully with staff and the public; to communicate effectively with supervisor, staff and the public.
  • Ability to understand and perform library procedures.


Physical Requirements:     Must be able to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time; lift boxes and crates of no more than 30 lbs.; move and manipulate inventory; frequent stooping, kneeling and crouching.

Youth Services Specialist – Hickory Flat Public Library

(Full-time, 40 hours per week)

We are looking for a great team player who enjoys working with children. If you love the

library and believe in great customer service, this job is for you!

This position organizes library services for youth ages 0-12, including information assistance, collection services and programming (including story times, after-school programs and summer reading programs). This position also works with branch staff to provide services to families and all ages.  The position interacts directly with the public to provide quality customer service.  This position provides the best possible programs and services to help support the learning needs of youth, and their families, schools and caregivers. This customer focused position anticipates and meets the needs of users in the most visible way and provides circulation assistance.  


Start Date: July 1, 2019

Closing Date: May 27, 2019

Location: Hickory Flat Public Library, 2740 East Cherokee Drive, Canton, GA 30115


Salary & Benefits: $22,454 Annually, Paid Annual Leave, Sick Leave & Holidays. State Health Benefit Plan, Flexible Benefits and Teacher Retirement System.


Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Schedule includes a combination of daytime, evening, and weekend hours. This library is open 6 days a week. Work schedule will vary and flexibility is required. Youth services staff should coordinate time-off with programming calendar and summer reading programs.


Responsibilities: Design, implement and evaluate a wide variety of programs and services appropriate to the identified interests and developmental needs of children requiring skills in program presentation and development.

  • Demonstrate creativity, openness to new ideas, knowledge of a variety of tools and techniques and a sense of humor.
  • Promote youth library services directly to children through school visits, library tours, etc., and through engaging caregivers, educators and other youth-serving community partners.
  • Utilize promotional techniques to attract and invite children and caregivers to use the collection and spaces.
  • Promote awareness of youth services to other staff members.
  • Assist at the service desk and provides staff support as needed.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience working with the public and/or customer service field experience preferred.

Experience supervising staff is preferred.  

Previous experience working in a library/or working with children is preferred.

Skills & Abilities: Customer service experience and strong technology skills.

Flexibility to work independently and collaborate with others; operate job-related equipment; problem solving; meet, communicate and deal with people effectively.
