Strategies: Establish the position of an Outreach Manager. Identify opportunities for exposure of library resources and services through outreach activities. Increase off-site programming. Maximize and increase outreach tools. Goal 2: Reach community members who do not use the library and increase library card holders in our service population. Strategies: Increase external marketing efforts, identifying new ways to reach non-card holders. Identify services which appeal to non-card holders. Increase library card holders to 40% of our service population. Goal 3: Establish the library as a community gathering place for all community members. Strategies: Invite entities to join us in our spaces through programming and partnership. Streamline the process for outside entities to utilize library space. Create library spaces that invite and encourage collaboration and gathering. Goal 4: Leverage library stories. Strategies: Refine patron library story feedback process to provide more useful information that can be used in marketing. Highlight user stories to stakeholders and the community in creative and impactful ways. Work with public-facing staff to evaluate strategies to gather impactful patron stories. 2024 Latest SRLS News Holiday Open Houses Wrapped Latest SRLS News Holiday Open Houses Wrapped December 30, 2024 This Winter Literacy, our libraries have been filled with laughter, joy, and cheer as we welcomed the community to our Holiday Open Houses. This festive tradition has allowed us to celebrate the holiday season with new friends, long-time friends, and special guests from the North Pole. We are incredibly grateful to all those who helped us make this holiday season one of our best yet. Across our seven locations, we celebrated with over 1,300 community members. Our Holiday Open Houses included performances from Oak Grove Elementary School, Etowah High School, Hickory Flat Elementary School, Ellijay Elementary School, Mountain View Elementary School, harpist Cathy Dobson and her piano students, Flutist Melissa Little, pianist and Gilmer County Branch Manager Alex Thomerson, and the Woodstock Ukulele Players. Multiple local organizations added to the holiday cheer as well, including the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, Southeast Outdoor Solutions, and the CCWSA. Our Friends of the Library organizations across all three counties assisted in serving refreshments, helping with crafts, and greeting visitors. Programming Manager - HQ Join Our Team! Programming Manager - HQ About the Role Under the direction of the Deputy Director, the Programming Manager plays a key role in designing and implementing system-wide programming and initiatives for youth, teens and adults. This position works closely with Branch Managers to help guide branch staff responsible for planning and presenting library programs in addition to training programming staff. This position works closely with the Marketing Manager and Outreach Manager, collaborating on a variety of library initiative efforts. Individuals in this position prioritize making time for intentional reflection in regards to their role and direct reports, identify innovative solutions to team hurdles, effectively frame change to staff with a forward-thinking and positive mindset, and actively pursue resolution when conflict arises. Individuals in this position can expect to spend 25% of their time supporting and attending branch library programming efforts, 25% of their time planning and implementing system programming efforts, 10% of their time creating and maintaining library reading initiatives, and 40% of their time completing managerial and leadership tasks. Jones Memorial Library (HQ), 116 Brown Industrial Parkway, Canton, GA 30114 Salary & Benefits: $42,000 - $50,000 Annually, Paid Annual Leave, Sick Leave & Holidays. State Health Benefit Plan, Flexible Benefits and Teacher Retirement System. Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Typical schedule is daytime hours, with possible evening and weekend hours. Flexibility is required. Responsibilities: Establish and communicate programming priorities that align with the mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the library. Assist with monitoring the changing needs of the community and make programming and initiative suggestions as appropriate. Coordinate system programming and play a key role in planning for system-wide initiatives. Monitor branch-level programming and offer performance feedback to staff when needed to ensure continuous improvement. Prioritizes bolstering and continuously investing in staff morale, ensuring that SRLS Staff Statements as well as Mission, Vision, and Values are upheld. Demonstrates a strong sense of self-motivation and displays the ability to move library projects forward whether that be individually or with a team. Cultivates and maintains positive staff relationships on all levels; encouraging and expecting the same with direct reports. Communicates effectively and positively with a wide variety of team members internally as well as individuals externally (patrons, program presenters, and community partners). Serve as a resource to Branch Managers and branch staff who present programs. Offer guidance throughout the planning process as needed, helping to reinforce guidelines and deadlines, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Provide training for staff members on planning and presenting programs as well as topics of interest related to library programming. Frequently attend library programs, especially those that the library is doing for the first time, those that are expected to attract large audiences, or those that have a wide interest in the community. Create, develop, and organize, and manage system-wide programming kits that reflect the needs of the community and programming staff. Maintain library reading initiatives, keeping all library staff aware of updates and creating staff education guides as needed. Supervise the Assistant Programming Manager. Support Assistant Programming Manager with SRLS Teen Advisory Board (TAB) efforts. Understand and adhere to the mission, values, and vision of the library organization and maintain current knowledge, trends and development through continuing education. Qualifications: Master’s Degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited program is preferred 3 years working in a library setting, with experience in programming Demonstrated ability organizing programs or events Supervisory experience is preferred Skills & Abilities: Skill reflecting a high level of comfort with technology. Ability to focus on specific work tasks with a high level of attention to detail. Ability to perform basic math and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work with others in a variety of circumstances; to deal tactfully with staff and the public; to communicate effectively with supervisor, staff and the public. Ability to understand and perform library procedures. Ability to set and complete goals, tasks and projects, demonstrating project management. Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects. Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time; lift boxes and crates of no more than 30 lbs.; move and manipulate inventory; frequent stooping, kneeling and crouching. Sequoyah Regional Library Digitizing Equipment: Gilmer County Library (made possible in part by a grant awarded by Faith Hope and Charity) Rose Creek Public Library (made possible in part by a grant awarded by Cobb EMC) Digitizing Equipment The following branches offer free use of digitizing equipment: Gilmer County Library (made possible in part by a grant awarded by Faith Hope and Charity) Rose Creek Public Library (made possible in part by a grant awarded by Cobb EMC) Guidelines for Use: A library account in good standing is required to use digitizing equipment. Accepted formats include images of any size up to 12”x17” (including drawings, maps, or large books), standard photographic slides, negative films, DVD/VHS recordings, cassettes, and CDs/DVDs (Rose Creek Public Library ONLY). Users should be 18 years of age or older to use the digitizing equipment and must have a valid SRLS library card. Completion of the Digitizing Equipment Request Form by a parent/guardian is required for users under 18 years old. Appointments can be scheduled for a maximum of 3 hours. If equipment is not reserved by another user, a maximum of 2 appointments can be scheduled per day. Users who schedule appointments are responsible for any misuse or damage to library equipment. If equipment is damaged beyond repair, users will be charged full replacement cost as assessed by SRLS. Food and drink are not permitted when using the equipment. User agrees that the library will be held harmless and is not liable for any damage or injury to user or user’s personal property as a result of using the library digitizing equipment. Items with excessive damage, including but not limited to mold or mildew, are ineligible for digitizing. Library staff will inspect items for damage. Library staff can provide assistance on using equipment but may be unavailable to offer extensive help during appointments. Please note, appointments are not scheduled until confirmed by library staff. At the first appointment, staff will provide a brief overview of the equipment.
