Sessions Sessions allow you to receive one-on-one help by reserving time with a staff member at any of our locations. By scheduling a session, we can ensure you will have up to 30 minutes of uninterrupted, one-on-one help on a topic of your choice. We’re available in person, by phone, email, and virtual meeting. This is a great way to book a librarian! Our staff members can help you: Learn and use technology, like the 3D Printer or Digital Equipment Locate quality resources for research projects Access eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines, and more from our eLibrary Explore our online catalog and browse databases Learn basic computer skills, email, and social media To request a session, please use the contact us form and select Ask Us! Sessions. Share as much detail about your request as possible. A staff member will contact you within 3 business days, and a session will be scheduled within one week of contact (unless a later date is desired). Sessions are not available on weekends. Fines and General Replacement Fees Replacement Fees for Print Materials About Your Library Fines & Fees Replacement Fees for Print Materials Full replacement cost will be charged for any periodicals or cataloged materials that are overdue for 30 days or damaged to an extent that they have to be replaced. The borrower may keep any damaged materials for which full replacement cost has been paid. If a lost item is found and returned to the Library within 180 days from the due date, in a similar condition as when borrowed, the replacement charge will be voided and the maximum late charge reinstated. The Library does not accept materials the patron has purchased in lieu of payment. Late fees, most items $0.20 per day, per item. Late fees, GA State Parks and Historic Sites Pass $1.00 per day. Late fees, Go Fish Pass, and Passport to Puppetry $3.00 per day. Non-resident use fee $35.00 per year. Books hardcover, Adult, replacement $30.00 each. Books hardcover, Easy and Juvenile, replacement $25.00 each. “Trade” Paperbacks (these are higher quality, often over-sized paper bound titles), replacement $15.00 each. Paperbacks (relatively inexpensive “beach read” sized books), replacement $5.00 each. Magazines, replacement $5.00 each. Board Books, replacement $5.00 each. Maps $2.00 each. Audio Books, replacement $8.00 per disc or cassette, up to $45.00. DVDs, replacement $10.00 per title. Video / Audio case, replacement $3.00 per item . Kit, replacement charges vary according to contents of kit. Chromebook $5.00 per day with a maximum of $20. Technology Devices, including Chromebooks, that are not returned or damaged beyond repair will be charged the full replacement cost of $500. If components are damaged and able to be repaired or replaced, staff will assess the possibility of a charge up to but not to exceed $500. $20 replacement fee for laptop bag. Service Associate (Full-Time) - Pickens Join Our Team! Service Associate (Full-Time) - Pickens About the Role This position is central to customer service, providing timely assistance to the public, shelving of materials, and responding to a variety of requests. This frontline position anticipates and meets the needs of users in the most visible way. This position also aids in maintaining the materials collection. Fully supported by all of the other sectors and departments, they work to provide quality customer service to the library community. Individuals in this position can expect to spend 50% of their time assisting the public from a library service point and 50% of their time assisting with circulation/collection maintenance. Closing Date: 9/4/2025 Start Date & Location: October 1, 2025 / Pickens County Library, 100 Library Ln, Jasper, GA 30143 Salary & Benefits: $30,160.00 Annually, Paid Annual Leave, Sick Leave & Holidays. State Health Benefit Plan, Flexible Benefits and Teacher Retirement System. Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours per week. The schedule includes a combination of daytime, evening, and weekend hours. This library is open 7 days a week. Work schedule will vary, and flexibility is required. Responsibilities: Deliver quality customer service, greeting the public in a welcoming, professional manner. Assist at the service desk and provide staff support as needed. Assist the public in the use of technology and library tools. Demonstrate general knowledge of the library automation system in use and specific knowledge of the operations that apply to circulation procedures. Understand and perform circulation operations for all library materials (including but not limited to check-in, check-out, renew, place holds, process holds, financial transactions, recordkeeping, etc.) Access the OPAC (online catalog) and library automation system, using a variety of tactics to locate items in the collection (via subject heading, author, title, keyword searches, etc.) Understand and perform collection maintenance procedures (including but not limited to shelving, shifting, shelf reading, etc.). Assist the public in locating, selecting, and using resources. Proactively interact with the public to ascertain what they need and ensure they find it. Ensure proper order of books, and neat orderly appearance of public areas. Maintain condition of books and other items through repair and light maintenance. Enter data in the library automation system or other software, maintaining confidential records and circulation databases. Handle financial transactions, count money and make change accurately. Provide supervision and guidance for part-time staff as needed and serve in an ‘in-charge’ role as needed. Engage in continuing education. Understand and adhere to the mission, values, and vision of the library organization and maintain current knowledge, trends and development through continuing education. Qualifications: Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. 1 year job-related experience; preferably working with the public in a customer service or retail field. Bilingual ability is a plus in serving a diverse community. Skills & Abilities: Basic computer skills, including the ability to type, operate a computer and navigate the internet. Ability to perform basic math; understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work with others in a variety of circumstances; to deal tactfully with staff and the public; to communicate effectively with supervisor, staff and the public. Ability to understand and perform library procedures Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time; lift boxes and crates of no more than 30 lbs.; move and manipulate inventory; frequent stooping, kneeling and crouching.
