Anyone who lives, pays taxes, or owns property in Cherokee, Pickens, or Gilmer County is eligible to receive a free library card for use throughout the Sequoyah Regional Library System. To receive a card, visit your local branch and bring a photo ID showing current local address, OR a photo ID with a prior address plus one address verification document that shows a current address. The most common form of ID is a driver’s license, but a utility bill, non-driver ID, or other form that clearly shows an in-county street address will be accepted. If you do not live within the tri-county area (Cherokee, Pickens and Gilmer Counties), but own property here, you are still eligible. Just provide your ID and a tax bill showing the address of your property. You can apply for a card at any of the public libraries that comprise the Sequoyah Regional Library System. Sequoyah Regional Library System Receives Great Stories Grant SRLS News Sequoyah Regional Library System Receives Great Stories Grant July 5, 2023 The Sequoyah Regional Library System has been selected by the American Library Association (ALA), with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as one of 58 libraries to receive implementation grants for the Great Stories Club, a thematic reading and discussion program for underserved teens. The two awarded grants include “Deeper Than Our Skins: The Present Is a Conversation with the Past” and “Finding Your Voice: Speaking Truth to Power”. As part of the Great Stories Club, staff from SRLS will work with a small group of teens to read and discuss stories that explore questions of race, equity, identity and history. The titles were selected to inspire young people — especially those facing difficult circumstances or challenges — to consider “big questions” about the world around them and their place in it. SRLS will receive two $500 programming stipends, one per theme, and 11 copies of each of the selected books. The books will be gifted to the book club participants. Since 2006, ALA’s Great Stories Club has helped libraries engage young adults with accessible, thought-provoking literature. 3D Printers are available to the public to make three-dimensional objects in plastic using a design that is uploaded from a digital computer file. The Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request. 3D Printing Please review the 3D Printer Policy and Guidelines for Use before submitting a request. Reserve to use one of our 3D printers! Hands-on 3D printer use is available to SRLS cardholders ages 18 and older. Policy: 3D Printers are available to the public to make three-dimensional objects in plastic using a design that is uploaded from a digital computer file. The Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request. The Library’s 3D printers may be used only for lawful purposes. The public will not be permitted to use the Library’s 3D printers to create material that is: Prohibited by local, state or federal law. Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others. (Such use may violate the terms of use of the manufacturer.) Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment. In violation of another’s intellectual property rights. For example, the printers will not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection. Users must complete a 3D Print Request Form before their print job is accepted. Print jobs must be under three hours, unless approved by library administration. Only Library staff or patrons with a completed user waiver will have hands-on access to the 3D printers. Cost per gram is posted prominently near the machines and is established by the County Library Board of Trustees which may change the fee at any time by action of the Board of Trustees. Guidelines for Use (Library Staff Led 3D Print Request): Complete a 3D Print Request Form before print job is started. Print jobs more than 3 hours may not be available for immediate print. Cost of printing will be 15 cents per gram minimum charge of $3.00 per each print job. You will be notified when your print job is complete. Items printed will be picked up within 7 days during regularly scheduled library hours, after which they will become property of the Library. Items must be picked up by the individual who requested the print job. Print time will be scheduled by library staff. PLEASE NOTE: A “complete” print job does not always mean “successful.” The library will still notify you of completion even if it does not come out perfectly. Reprints will only be available in the event of machine malfunction. Failed prints due to errors within the 3D model (print file submitted) will still be charged for materials used. All print jobs are pending until approved by library staff. Sequoyah Regional Library System Receives 2025 Agricultural Book of the Year Donation SRLS News Sequoyah Regional Library System Receives 2025 Agricultural Book of the Year Donation March 21, 2025 The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture, Georgia Farm Bureau and Georgia Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) are jointly promoting agricultural literacy by donating copies of the children’s book “The Soil in Jackie’s Garden” to Sequoyah Regional Library System. The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture (GFA) and Georgia EMC have given each county Farm Bureau in Georgia enough books for every public library in the county. The Cherokee County Farm Bureau, Pickens County Farm Bureau, and Gilmer County Farm Bureau each delivered a copy of the book to Sequoyah Regional Library System. Denise Forward, Program Coordinator for Cherokee County Farm Bureau, presented the book to Kersting Shaw, R.T. Jones Memorial Library Assistant Branch Manager. Rachel Hoffbauer, Pickens County Farm Bureau Office Manager, and Kadie Shaw, Public Relations of Amicalola EMC, presented the book to Katie Dobson, Pickens County Library Branch Manager. Candra Frady, Gilmer County Farm Bureau Office Manager, presented the book to Alex Thomerson, Gilmer County Library Branch Manager. “The Soil in Jackie’s Garden,” written by Peggy Thomas and illustrated by Neely Daggett, follows Jackie and her garden friends as they discover the wonders of gardening, soil secrets and the magic of composting. They embrace the joys of planting a garden, nurturing and harvesting their own food, and recycling scraps to compost, ensuring that the “magical cycle of growth and sustainability continues anew.” The American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture selected the book as its 2025 Book of the Year for its accurate and positive portrayal of agriculture. The GFA began donating accurate books about agriculture to each public library in Georgia in 2016. Georgia EMC joined the foundation as a sponsor of this endeavor in 2018.

Youth Services Specialist - Pickens About the Role This position organizes library programs for youth ages 0-12 and also works with branch staff to provide family and all ages programs to help support the learning needs of youth and their caregivers. This frontline position anticipates and meets the needs of users in the most visible way; interacting directly with the public to provide quality customer service, providing timely assistance and responding to a variety of requests. Individuals in this position can expect to spend 20% of their time assisting the public from a library service point, 20% of their time assisting with circulation/collection maintenance, and 60% of their time preparing and implementing library programs. Create booklists, read-alikes, and other readers advisory tools to appeal to children. Maintain and report statistics related to programs as required. Provide a monthly schedule of programs for inclusion in system wide promotional materials in a timely manner. Promote current library services and programs. Work with supervisor to inform branch staff of changes in programs. Provide supervision for part-time staff as needed. Understand and adhere to the mission, values, and vision of the library organization and maintain current knowledge, trends and development through continuing education. Qualifications: Requires High School Diploma or equivalent. 1 year job related experience; preferably working with the public in a customer service or retail field. Bilingual ability is a plus in serving a diverse community. Skills & Abilities: Skills in program presentation and speaking in public. Skills reflecting a high level of comfort with technology. Ability to perform basic math. Understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work with others in a variety of circumstances; to interact tactfully with staff and the public; to communicate effectively with supervisor and staff. Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time; lift boxes and crates of no more than 30 lbs.; move and manipulate inventory; frequent stooping, kneeling and crouching.
