Programming Manager - HQ About the Role Under the direction of the Deputy Director, the Programming Manager plays a key role in designing and implementing system-wide programming and initiatives for youth, teens and adults. This position works closely with Branch Managers to help guide branch staff responsible for planning and presenting library programs in addition to training programming staff. This position works closely with the Marketing Manager and Outreach Manager, collaborating on a variety of library initiative efforts. Individuals in this position prioritize making time for intentional reflection in regards to their role and direct reports, identify innovative solutions to team hurdles, effectively frame change to staff with a forward-thinking and positive mindset, and actively pursue resolution when conflict arises. Individuals in this position can expect to spend 25% of their time supporting and attending branch library programming efforts, 25% of their time planning and implementing system programming efforts, 10% of their time creating and maintaining library reading initiatives, and 40% of their time completing managerial and leadership tasks. Flexibility is required. Responsibilities: Establish and communicate programming priorities that align with the mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the library. Assist with monitoring the changing needs of the community and make programming and initiative suggestions as appropriate. Coordinate system programming and play a key role in planning for system-wide initiatives. Monitor branch-level programming and offer performance feedback to staff when needed to ensure continuous improvement. Prioritizes bolstering and continuously investing in staff morale, ensuring that SRLS Staff Statements as well as Mission, Vision, and Values are upheld. Demonstrates a strong sense of self-motivation and displays the ability to move library projects forward whether that be individually or with a team. Cultivates and maintains positive staff relationships on all levels; encouraging and expecting the same with direct reports. Communicates effectively and positively with a wide variety of team members internally as well as individuals externally (patrons, program presenters, and community partners). Serve as a resource to Branch Managers and branch staff who present programs. Offer guidance throughout the planning process as needed, helping to reinforce guidelines and deadlines, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Provide training for staff members on planning and presenting programs as well as topics of interest related to library programming. Frequently attend library programs, especially those that the library is doing for the first time, those that are expected to attract large audiences, or those that have a wide interest in the community. Create, develop, and organize, and manage system-wide programming kits that reflect the needs of the community and programming staff. Maintain library reading initiatives, keeping all library staff aware of updates and creating staff education guides as needed. Supervise the Assistant Programming Manager. Support Assistant Programming Manager with SRLS Teen Advisory Board (TAB) efforts. Understand and adhere to the mission, values, and vision of the library organization and maintain current knowledge, trends and development through continuing education. Qualifications: Master’s Degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited program is preferred 3 years working in a library setting, with experience in programming Demonstrated ability organizing programs or events Supervisory experience is preferred Skills & Abilities: Skill reflecting a high level of comfort with technology. Ability to focus on specific work tasks with a high level of attention to detail. Ability to perform basic math and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work with others in a variety of circumstances; to deal tactfully with staff and the public; to communicate effectively with supervisor, staff and the public. Ability to understand and perform library procedures. Ability to set and complete goals, tasks and projects, demonstrating project management. Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects. Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time; lift boxes and crates of no more than 30 lbs.; move and manipulate inventory; frequent stooping, kneeling and crouching. The Hickory Flat Renovation and Expansion Project officially began on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 with a celebratory groundbreaking featuring Sequoyah Regional Library System staff and board members turning the soil with Cherokee County officials and the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce. The finished renovation of the Hickory Flat Public Library building, originally built in 1993, includes an addition of 7,800 square feet to the building. The building was designed by CAS Architecture and built by Hollandsworth Construction. With an expanded and renovated library facility, the Sequoyah Regional Library System community will have more space for books and technology; larger areas for programs, meetings, collaboration, and creation; and additional seating for study and quiet reading.
